In October 2001, a test was conducted at the National Institute for Land and Infrastructure Management to investigate the basic service performances of the ITS for Pedestrians, which are positioning, provision of vicinity information, and route guidance. Approximately 80 visually disabled and 20 wheelchair users tested the navigation system using portable terminals of the prototype ITS for Pedestrians.
Over 90% of both the visually disabled and wheelchair users replied in the questionnaire after the test that they "want to use" the ITS for Pedestrians, showing the value of the information service.
