The "Fifth Asia-Pacific ITS Forum (former ITS Seminar)" was held in Seoul, Korea, in July 2002. The first seminar was held in Tokyo (1996), followed by the second Seminar in Cairns, Australia (1997), the third Seminar in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (1999), and the fourth Seminar in Beijing, China (2000). The largest number of participants, 800 from 17 nations and regions, attended the fifth Forum. At the inauguration ceremony, the Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Construction and Transportation of Korea, the Minister of the Ministry of Works of Malaysia, and representatives of ITS Japan, ITS America, ITS Australia, ITS Canada, and the Asian Development Bank gave short speeches. A total of 140 presentations were made at the forum, and active dialogues and information exchange were conducted. The participating nations agreed to cooperate for the promotion of ITS in the Asian and Pacific region.
