The Tone Canal

The Tone Canal Water Road Connecting the Tonegawa and Edogawa Rivers

〜“Canal waterside park” local recreation area〜

The Tone Canal was completed in 1890 as a water route between the Edogawa and Tone rivers to quickly deliver large quantities of products from Hokkaido and Tohoku to Edo (modern-day Tokyo).
The canal was planned by the Dutch engineer Mulder and built by a private company. Although it is a canal, it is built following the terrain, and is characterized by its gentle meandering form.
You can take leisurely strolls or feel a sense of history here. Please enjoy this space where history, culture, and the rich natural environment are in perfect harmony.
