〜Visit the check dams of the Arakawa area〜

The water of the Arakawa River comes from the Ou Mountains. It merges with small streams through the hills before merging with the Abukumagawa River to the south of Fukushima City.
There are 33 check dams in the catchment area.

Fukushima Prefecture began work in 1900, and national government support for the Arakawa No. 1 Check Dam started in 1936.

Many historic structures have been listed as tangible cultural properties and Selected Civil Engineering Heritage sites.
The Arakawa River has many such civil engineering heritage sites and is often visited by residents.
There are paths to wander along the Arakawa River and signs indicate civil engineering facilities.

Walk along the river and become acquainted with historic facilities such as old open levees and flood control forests.
