Protecting the Safety of Maritime Navigation and the Environment A Tour on Which You Can See “Bisan” at Close Quarters

〜Experience the “Bisan” that supports industrial activities in the Seto Inland Sea〜

The Bisan-Seto route extends approximately sixty kilometers east to west between the Harima-Nada Sea and the Hiuchi-Nada Sea. This route is a key maritime transportation hub for ships using major ports in the Seto Inland Sea such as Takamatsu, Sakaide and Mizushima Ports. These ships transport raw materials that are essential for Japanese industry, including coal, grain, and iron ore. The functions of the Bisan-Seto route support regional industrial activity.

The sea surface cleaning and oil recovery vessel “Bisan” collects wood and other drifting objects on the Bisan-Seto route and in the Seto Inland Sea. It prevents these drifting objects from colliding with the hulls or becoming caught in the propellers of ships in the sea, while also working to protect the marine environment.

Taking the opportunity provided by Marine Day in July and also making use of events conducted jointly with organizations that cooperate with the port, the Takamatsu Port and Airport Maintenance Office conducts Bisan Tours, explaining the roles of the Bisan-Seto route and the port.

Comments from guests of the Bisan Tour (from questionnaires)
• I enjoyed being on board and hearing the explanation. It was a really valuable opportunity. Thank you for continuing to work in places I don't see.
• I learned for the first time that you cleaned the surface of the sea this way.
• I think that it must be difficult to realize safe navigation after a typhoon or something like that. Keep doing what you do!
• I realized that these ships make an essential contribution to society.
