The Sameura Dam

“Life” of Shikoku’s Four Prefectures Sameura Dam

〜As a water source, and place for relaxation and interactions〜

The Sameura Dam is at the center of water resource development in the Yoshino River system. It not only protects against floods but also supplies 863 million cubic meters of water annually. The dam supports the life and economy of Shikoku’s four prefectures.

Every year, junior high school students in Kagawa Prefecture learn about the importance of water and the hardships taken by predecessors who protected it as part of a “water source trip.”

Many other people also tour the facility.

In addition, the Yamabiko Carnival, a marathon, a bass fishing competition, and water sports events are held in the summer around the dam.

The dam is loved and used year-round not just for learning. At Japan Dam Award 2014, it received high praise for its disaster prevention features during a typhoon-induced flooding that hit the archipelago in August of the same year, and received the Flood Control Award and the Dam Award.
