The Matsubara and Shimouke dams were built upstream on the Chikugo River, the largest river in Kyushu.
The Matsubara Dam and its upstream sibling Shimouke Dam work in cooperation.
Pleasure boat cruises operate on the surface of the lake at Matsubara Dam from November to May.
We invite you to enjoy the changing seasonal scenery here, from autumn leaves to scenes of wintery snow, and then to the season of cherry blossoms.
At Matsubara Dam and Shimouke Dam, visitors can tour the inside of the embankment body and the operation room, areas normally closed to the public. Please feel free to contact us if you’d like to take a tour.
