Experience the History of Sewage at Japan’s First Modern Sewage Treatment Plant

〜Nationally-designated important cultural property Pumping Station at Former Mikawashima Sewage Disposal Plant〜

This facility in Arakawa City was in operation for about eighty years since it opened in 1922 until 1999. Its high historical value has been recognized as Japan's first modern sewage treatment plant, and it was the first property to be designated a nationally important cultural property (building) in the sewerage field. Once a year, the station organizes a “candle night” where you can see the contrast of the beautiful historic building and candlelight. Fiscal year 2019 was a successful year with 1,945 visitors.
