Notice from the Japan Tourism Agency

2010/02/10

The Japan Tourism Agency (JTA), a subsidiary organization of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan (MLIT), is now calling for application for a contract on a new logo design for a new catch-phrase in English language, which will be shortly chosen by the JTA to replace the existing one, “Yokoso! Japan”, and will be used in the Japanese Government’s comprehensive campaign to promote international tourism to the country.

The JTA has started to work on its new strategy to attract more tourists from overseas. The JTA recently upgraded the target numbers of foreign visitors to fifteen million in 2013, twenty million in 2016 and twenty-five million in 2019.

Under this new strategy, the JTA decided to replace the existing catch-phrase and its logo design which have been used for its campaign in overseas markets since 2003, with a view to giving an even more attractive image to travels to Japan. As the new catch-phrase is scheduled to be picked up from the applications pool in the second half of February, the JTA is now calling for application for a new logo design for that catch-phrase.

All the applications, which are to be submitted after the JTA’s announcement of its selection of the new catch-phrase, will be subject to consideration by the Special Committee within the MLIT and the JTA . When the Committee finalizes its selection process by picking up one logo design from the applications pool, the person or company who submitted the chosen logo design will enter into a contract with the MLIT as provided by the Japanese Government’s procurement rules and will be paid up to five million yen (JPY 5,000,000) under that contract.

Each application needs to be submitted in accordance with the Japanese Government’s procurement rules. Moreover, please note that, as the application format must be prepared in Japanese language, the JTA will be pleased to provide assistance to those who are interested in applying but are not familiar with the language. When you would like to ask for such assistance, please send an e-mail in English to g_KKC_KKR@mlit.go.jp.

Thank you very much for your attention.
