The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) held the “International Seminar on Architecture and Urban DX” in Tsukuba City on February 18, 2012, co-hosted by Tsukuba City and International Architectural Education Platform, University of Tokyo. We disseminated abroad Japan's policies on DX in the urban, building and real estate sectors and the actual status of efforts to implement smart cities, and held discussions with 12 experts from industry, government and academia who gathered from Japan and abroad.
The seminar featured a special lecture by Hiroto Izumi, Project Professor of the University of Tokyo, a keynote speech by Ms. Lamia Kamal-Chaoui, Director, Centre for Entrepreneurship, SMEs, Regions and Cities, OECD, and Mr. Keisuke Murakami, Director General for Public Service Group, Digital Agency, followed by two panel discussions. The first part, “Case Studies of Smart Cities,” discussed the objectives, effects, and challenges in realizing smart cities, focusing on the case of Tsukuba City, and the second part, “The Latest Policy in Architectural and Urban DX,” discussed best practices in architectural and urban DX initiatives, while The second part, “The Latest Trends in Architectural and Urban DX Policies,” introduced best practices in architectural and urban DX initiatives, starting with introductions by the panelists, followed by an exchange of ideas among the panelists.
The event was attended by about 120 people from research institutes and companies in related fields, overseas government agencies including embassies in Japan, and domestic administrative agencies, etc., and concrete initiatives related to “Architectural and Urban DX” were disseminated both domestically and internationally.
