World economy in 1973 was in turbulence due to instability of currencies
and occurrence of the fuel crisis, but the amount of the world trade in 1973
rose sharply by 37.9 per cent to US$509,200 million. The volume of trade, however,
registered an increase of only 14.6 per cent in 1973 over the previous year.

Out of the above, the trade volume of Japan in 1973 was 51.36 million tons
for exports and 60l.30 million tons for imports, indicating increases of 3.4
per cent and 17.2 per cent respectively over the previous year.
The volume of international passenger movement in 1973 increased by 8.6
per cent to 215 million passengers, out of which the volume of interl national
passenger movement of Japan registered 3.14 million exit passengers and 3.12
million entry passengers, 6.26 million passengers in total, indicating a 36.2
per cent increase over the previous year (compared with 17.0 per cent in 1972).
