Foreign visitors entering Japan in 1.977 increased remarkably (12.4%) lover the level of the preceding year to 1,030,000, showing almost the same growth rate achieved in the preceding year. Japanese travelers going abroad numbered 3,150,000, an increase of 10.5% over the preceding year. Air passengers entering and leaving Japan in FY1977 increased by 7.2% as compared to 9,780,000 passengers in the preceding fiscal year. Those carried by Japanese aviation enterprises increased by 2.0% point to 36.9%, because the Europe route via the Southern and the Asian routes were busy. (See Table 5.)
