INTRODUCTION OF GMDSS (GLOBAL MARITIME DISTRESS AND SAFETY SYSTEM) AND ESTABLISHMENT OF PRACTICAL SYSTEMS (FEB. 1, 1992)

On February 1, 1992, the revision of the "International Convention for the Safety of Life at sea, 1974" took effect and GMDSS was introduced around the world.
Replacing previous safety communication systems using the Morse code, it has made possible appropriate and speedy search and rescue operations, with the use of radio waves which can travel a wide distance via satellite, which enable ships to send SOS to land from any part of the sea, and sea safety information from ground to be clearly received.
