In recent years, the condition of motor vehicles has changed dramatically due to improvements in quality, structure and equipment, as well as changes in the use of motor vehicles. Taking this background into consideration, studies of motor vehicle inspection and maintenance have been made by the Council for Transport Technology, from technical and specialist standpoints. As a result, on June 1993, the Council submitted recommendations to the Minister of Transport entitled "Motor Vehicle Inspection and Maintenance in the Future" containing a large scale simplification of currently specified items to be periodically checked and an application of reasonable rates for the maintenance and a revision of items to be checked. Necessary measures will be taken in order to implement these recommendations.
