ARRIVAL OF THE FULL-SCALE CRUISlNG ERA (December 1993`)

@ @ The Ministry of Transport is promoting ocean liner voyages as one of the measures to encourage pleasant use of leisure time. From December 1993 to April 1994, the Ministry developed cruising campaigns in cooperation with Japan Oceangoing Passenger Ship Association, opening cruisers to the public and offering moderately-priced cruising tours. Thanks to these efforts, ocean-going cruising is getting popular among Japanese people. It was announced that a passenger ship "Asuka" will start on a 96-day round-the-world cruising tour in 1996, and "Nippon-maru" a 62-day cruising tour going around Hawaii, the Caribbean Sea and Alaska in 1995. It seems that a full-scale cruising era has arrived with an increasing number of reservations made for these tours.
