"MISSION FOR ENCOURAGlNG ACQUISITION OF AUTOMOBILE TYPE DESIGNATION" DISPATCHED TO THE UNITED STATES (March 8 to 13, 1994)

@ @ A "Mission for Encouraging Acquisition of Automobile type designation" led by a Vice-Minister for International Affairs was sent to the United States during six days from March 8 to 13, 1994. The mission described the outline and the merits of type designation to the executives of the Big Three in Detroit (General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler) and explained the duties of consuls in charge of automobile examination to be stationed from April this year. In this way, the mission encouraged the U.S. automobile makers to obtain type designation. The companies welcomed the action taken by the Ministry of Transport and said that they would make positive efforts to obtain type designation. The US companies in particular appreciated the placement of consuls in charge of examination and expressed high expectations for their role.
