Emergency Relief supply Transport for North Sakhalin Earthquake Victims (May 30, 1995`)


@ @ Late on night of May 27, 1995 (Japan time) an earthquake measuring Magnitude of 7.6 on the Richter Scale shook the northern region of the province of Sakhalin, Russia. It virtually annihilated the oil-well drilling town of Nefuchegolsk.
@ @ Japanese Maritime Safety Agency began gathering pertinent information Immediately following the quake. In the midst of performing this task, it received requests from the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Hokkaido prefectural government, to transport of emergency relief supplies to the disaster area. The YS-11A aircraft "OJIRO", stationed at the Chitose Air base of the 1st Regional Maritime Safety Headquarters, flew medical equipment, foods, potable water, cold-weather gear and other emergency relief supplies to Juzno-Sahalinsk twice, On May 30 and 31. In addition, the patrol vessels "Soya", on June 3, and "Rebun" on June 8, transported emergency relief supplies to Korsakov. (picture)
