1. Creation of Automobile Society Harmonious with Environment

　 　 Emission controls have been tightened to reduce nitrogen oxides (NOx) and other pollutants. Types of vehicle are also controlled by purpose of use according to provisions of the NOx law. Efforts are also being made to raise fuel efficiency to help prevent the greenhouse effect on the Earth, and low-pollution vehicles are being developed for practical use.

2. Toward Safer Automobile Society

　 　 The motor vehicle inspection and the checks inspection and maintenance systems were revised in July 1995. The revision clarified vehicle user responsibility and simplified the checks and maintenance, etc.
