To strengthen the international competitiveness of the Japanese shipbuilding industry, the Ministry is making efforts to stabilize supply and demand on a long-term basis, solidify its industrial base and promote international cooperation. It is also adjusting the industrial structure to prepare for a shipping agreement which is scheduled to go in effect in 1996 (Fig. 43).
