Section 3. Efforts to Conclude UN Convention on the Law of the Sea

1. The Convention Takes Effect

　 　 The Convention on the Law of the Sea went to effect in November 1994. Japan, a country surrounded by seas, will make necessary preparations to ratify the Convention from the standpoint of protecting and preserving the ocean environment and ensure safe navigation.
