It is important for Japan's shipbuilding and ship machinery industries to cope with the rapidly-changing business situations around them, and as sound and attractive industries, to maintain international competitiveness and contribute to the local economy. To this end, the Ministry is taking the following measures : the improvement of the industrial basis with the use of advanced information technology ; promotion of international coordination ; and strengthening of the relationship between shipbuilding and ship machinery industries (Fig. 43, Fig. 44).
