To meet the ever-growing demands of aviation, the Ministry
is engaged in intensive and effective investment. It is pushing forward with,
as the main priority for the development of base airports, the maintenance of
New Tokyo International Airport, Tokyo International Airport and Kansai International
Airport, under the Seventh 5-year Airport Development Plan for FY 1996-2000.
At the same time, the Ministry is developing other general airports and
aviation safety facilities (Fig. 55,
Fig. 56).
The number of domestic passengers doubled in the past decade,
reaching 82.13 million in FY 1996.
The Ministry is making efforts to give appropriate aviation administration
in such trends as deregulation and globalization, for the main purpose of improved
convenience for users of aviation transport which has come to play a major role
in transportation, and also in view of user protection..
