Last Update : 2026/4/16

The Japan Tourism Agency held the “Tourism Resilience Symposium 2026” with the aim of further promoting tourism resilience.

The symposium featured presentations on the Guidelines on Tourism Resilience and Good Practices, developed through the Tourism Resilience Working-Level Meetings in 2025, along with a keynote address by UN Tourism and a panel discussion with government officials from Indonesia and the Republic of Korea.

1. Background

Based on the “Sendai Statement” adopted at a ministerial-level meeting titled the “Tourism Resilience Summit” held in November 2024, the Japan Tourism Agency convened the Tourism Resilience Working-Level Meetings in July and December 2025. These meetings were organized with the aim of enhancing the effectiveness of initiatives under the Statement and further strengthening cooperation within the Asia-Pacific region.

During the meetings, discussions focused on the first pillar of the Sendai Statement, namely, “Preventing and Minimizing the Impacts of Crises and Disasters Caused by Natural Hazards. Participants shared initiatives and insights from countries and organizations across the Asia-Pacific region, and as an outcome of the meetings, the Guidelines on Tourism Resilience and Good Practices were compiled.

Subsequently, the Tourism Resilience Symposium 2026 was held to present the outcomes of the working-level meetings, including the Guidelines and Good Practices. Among other sessions, the symposium also featured a keynote address by UN Tourism and a panel discussion involving government officials from Indonesia and the Republic of Korea. Through these activities, the symposium aimed to promote more effective sharing of knowledge related to “Preventing and Minimizing the Impacts of Crises and Disasters Caused by Natural Hazards.
