Section2 Advanced Road Traffic Services

Providing Barrier-free Information

For the implementation of ITS for Pedestrians

Three services of ITS for Pedestrians

The ITS for Pedestrians aims to provide the following three services:

Issuing warnings about dangerous sites and states

The system sends a warning to visually disabled users when they approach staircases and pedestrian crossings or deviate from sidewalks into roadways and roadside ditches to prevent the users from falling from stairs and walking into the middle of roads unintentionally.

Providing information about nearby facilities

The system provides pedestrians with information about their locations and nearby facilities. Users can also search for facilities with wheelchair access.

Guiding the route to a destination

The system informs visually disabled users about routes with guide-blocks and those which are easy to walk along. For users in wheel-chairs, wide and barrier-free routes with no stairs and little grade differences are suggested.
