ITU adopted the 5.8 GHz band DSRC as the first international radio communications standard for ITS

ITU adopted the new recommendation of DSRC for ETC at the SG8 meeting held in November 1999, which became an official recommendation of ITU-R at the Radiocommunication Assembly (RA) in May 2000. Furthermore, the standard in accordance with the multi-purpose type DSRC Standard in Japan was approved as a new recommendation at the WP 8A meeting held in October 2001.

Standardization efforts for 5.8GHz-band DSRC

ITU approved the 5.8 GHz frequency band as the standard for DSRC (Dedicated Short Range Communications), which is the key technology for ITS. Activities in European and North American countries are in line with this decision, and the 5.8 GHz-band is expected to become the global standard.
