Activities for international standardization and their effects

ISO : International Organization for Standardization

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) promotes international standardization of industrial products in order to encourage the international exchange of goods and services, as well as international cooperation in such fields as intellectual property, technological development and economic activities.
TC 204 is a technical committee set up within the ISO to promote standardization regarding urban and rural surface transport as a whole. It was formally approved by the ISO Council in September 1992. Since it held the first plenary session in Washington D.C. in April 1993, TC 204 has been engaged in standardization for Transport Information and Control Systems (TICS).
Within ISO TC 204, there are working groups WG 1 to 16, and discussions for standardization are now underway in 12 WGs shown in the following figure:
