Activities for international standardization and their effects

Japan's activities for ISO/TC 204

In Japan, a domestic committee for international standardization was founded in 1993 as the counterpart of ISO/TC 204. Under this committee, subcommittees corresponding to TC 204's working groups and subsidiary committees have been engaged in activities related to ISO/TC 204. In 1998, in order to accelerate the activities, the domestic committee and the subsidiary committees were reorganized, and the ISO/TC 204 National Committee and a technical committee (subsidiary committee of the ISO/TC 204 National Committee) were founded. In response to the results of re-engineering by ISO/TC 204, the ISO/TC 204 National Committee started promoting studies on and awareness of international standardization. The ISO/TC 204 National Committee was reorganized and changed its name to ITS Standardization Committee in December 2000.
