Hokkaido of Fishery

Hokkaido where surrounded by the Sea of Japan, Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Okhotsk, is favored by ideal conditions as one of the best fishing places in the world, plays an important role as a base of marine products supply in Japan. However recently, it is on a declining trend of fishery resources, we are promoting development of fish reef for Alaska Pollack and rockfish, development of egg laying reefs for spear squid and octopus, for promoting high-degree application in the 200 nautical mile zones. There are 3000km of seacoast in Hokkaido where has 282 fishing ports those are formed fishing villages. These fishing ports and fishing villages play important roles as a base of fishery production activity, as a base of fishery distribution, as a place of life and work for fisherman party and as a place of marine recreation for people. Therefore in response of changing both domestic and international situation, we are promoting systematic development of fishery ports and fishery villages with development of fishing place, for development of marine products industry, for availability of fishery products, and for improvement of life and work environment in fishing villages.

Creating foster environment in the marine area, promoting high sanitary management at the fishing port
