@ @ The volume of Japan's international cargo transport by oceangoing shipping
noted a decrease in the order of 7% against the preceding fiscal year both in
export and import. A study of commodities reveals that the export volume of
cement and motor vehicles increased, but the export volume of steel and fertilizers
etc. decreased from the Preceding fiscal year. The ratio of export to the Middle
and Near East increased. As for the import, all the commodities, except some
food products, decreased. However, the transport volume of Japanese mercantile
fleet (including chartered foreign ships) made 4.3% increase in export and 2.4%
increase in import over the preceding fiscal year. As a result, their transport
share increased to 54.8% in export and 74.9% in import. The transport share
of Japanese flag ships also increased both in export and import. The air transport
volume made a large increase both in incoming and outgoing fields. The cargo
volume of Japanese international air lines made 55.4% increase (outgoing) and
18.9% increase (incoming) from the preceding fiscal year. So their transport
share also increased. (Table 1-2-2).
