The research and development of a techno-superliner (new ultra-high speed
ship) 'started in 1989 with an aimed performance of 1000 ton freight capacity
and 50 knots velocity has entered its fourth year with steady progress. Should
this ultra-fast ship become a reality in the future, it is expected to contribute
greatly to the "modal shift" of freight by truck to sea transportation.
Up to now, research carried out on base technologies of ship- modeling,
structure, propelling device, ship position control system, etc. have been carried
out in water tanks and through simulation. Results are expected to be summarized
within 1992.
Also, to verify and evaluate the results of the research in actual sea conditions,
an experiment on a model ship will be carried out at sea. Constructions of two
model ships will be started in 1992.
