On April 2, 1992, a high level Japan-EC talks on transport was held in
Tokyo with the EC committee's 7th president Coleman as guest.
In the talks, views were exchanged on the prospects of the GATT Uruguay
round talks, circumstances surrounding the drawing up of joint transport policies
with the coming of the EC unification, progress of improving Japan's international
airports such as the Kansai International Airport, etc.
High level talks on transport have been carried out since 1992 to regularly
exchange views and adjust policies between the Vice-minister for International
Affairs of the Ministry of Transport and the vice-ministers of various countries
to ensure smooth transport administration.
The Ministry of Transport plans to actively carry out such high level talks
on transport in the future because it faces various issues in the transport
field that require adjustment with other countries with the deepening of interdependence
in international economies.
