OFFICIAL PARTICIPATION IN INTERNATIONAL SPECIALIZED EXPOSITION "CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS" SHIPS AND THE SEA (MAY 5, 1992 TO AUGUST 15, 1992)


    Commemorating the 500th anniversary of Columbus's discovery of America, a specialized exposition based on the exposition treaty "International Specialized Exposition' Christopher Columbus' Ships and the Sea" was held from May 15 to August 15, 1992 at Columbus's birthplace Genoa in Italy. Based on the theme "Ship and the sea", 48 countries and six international organizations took part.
    From Japan, with the Ministry of Transport playing a major role, efforts were made to introduce the "real Japan" via events such as floating pavilions which were reproduced from the old ferryboat "Yoteimaru" which once plied between Hakodate and Aomori, Japan booths (with the participation of 7 local goverments, namely Miagi prefecture, Tokyo, Yokohama, Aichi Prefecture, Osaka Prefecture, Osaka. Kobe).
    Covered widely by the press and visited by many, the Japan Pavilion was extremely popular and successful, contributing widely to the development of exchange between Japan , Italy and various countries.
