NEW TOURISM PROMOTION BY UTILIZlNG LOCAL TRADITIONAL ART AND DEVELOPlNG HOTELS AND INNS FOR FOREIGN TOURISTS (MAY 6, 1992)


@ @ Because local traditional entertainment and native customs, such as dance, drums, dengaku, and native customs help promote tourism and increase the number of foreign tourists. Based on the "Law for Promotion of Tourism and Specific Reginal Industries Through Traditional Festivals and Event" set up in the 123'rd Diet, appropriate support, such as providing capital and information via support organizations, will be extended to tourist events based on the traditional arts and customs of a particular region. And the Ministry of Transport and MITI plan to set up a foundation-local traditional arts usage center (tentative name).
@ @ With the increase in foreign tourists in Japan in recent years, and the diversification of the needs of these tourists, services for foreign tourists will be improved by revising hotel and inn registration standards and creating information-providing systems according to the "Law for Improvement of International Tourist Hotel Facilities" recently revised in the same Diet.
