The Ministry of transport has, based on the report of the council for
Transport Technology "Transport Technology Policy Prospects for the 2lst Century"
(June 1991), summarized the policies necessary for promoting the development
of harbor technology in Japan for the beginning of the 2lst century as the "Long-term
policies of harbor technology development", and announced it officially on June
17, 1992.
These policies take into consideration the seriousness of environmental
problems of recent years at the global level and the globalization of economic
activities. And aiming to create a gentrified waterfront which is also enviroment
friendly and contribute to the international exchange of men and information
and to the world, it has picked up 10 important technological development issues
such as improving the quality of the harbor space, building high performance
terminals, lowering power consumption of harbor constructions, etc., and indicated
future policies for promoting harbor technology development.
