1992 is the 40th anniversary of the civil aviation resumed in 1942. In
these 40 years, Japan has attained much progress in aviation which has become
the basic means of linking people, places, and countries.
Taking this 40th anniversary as an opportunity, numerous events commemorating
the anniversary took place to give thanks to those who have played a part in
contributing to the rebirth of civil aviation, and its development; to celebrate
its current development, to hope for further safety and growth in the future
and to gain the understanding and wide public support towards aviation administration
and aviation services in general.
To give the September 20 "Aviation Day" a softer image, it was renamed "Sky
Day". The "ten day sky campaign" was established bearing the catch phrase "more
surprises, the sky is the frontier" A wide variety of events were carried out
nation-wide such as memorial ceremonies, the "World Aviation Fiesta '92", writing
contests, establishment of sky day artistic prizes, tour of facilities such
as airports at various places, one-day, airport master etc.
