Completion of Training Facilities for Oil Spill Response at the Maritime Disaster Prevention Center (March 15, 1996)


    Training facilities for oil spill response have been completed at the Maritime Disaster Prevention Center. These facilities, which are epoch-making in the world, are the training tank which enables the operation of equipment for collection actually using oil, a pool for the practice of collection and cleaning of spilled oil which is washed ashore, a training building for the practice of simulation of forecast of the diffusion of spilled oil, etc.
    At the Center, these facilities have been utilized to enhance the training for oil spill response by actually using oil and has opened since July 1996 three practical training courses (Marine Oil Spill Control Course, Offshore Oil Spill Control practical training Course, and Coastal Oil Spill Control practical training Course) to provide effective training to cultivate capable persons for oil spill response.
    Furthermore, utilizing the same facilities, from FY1996 human resources development has been initiated to strengthen its functions for international cooperation, including a = 5-year program for human resources development initiated in FY1996 for the purpose of training persons in charge of the prevention of maritime disaster in countries (15 countries) located around the routes for tankers to Japan.(picture)
