In accordance with the 5th traffic safety basic plan established in 1991
which states that "experimental undertakings will be promoted concerning the
information on the automobile safety which enables users to understand the difference
in safety according to car model and select higher safety models", the National
Organization for Automobile Safety & Victims' Aid has conducted, in cooperation
with the Ministry of Transport, research and study on automotive safety information
since FY1991.
As a result, the information on (1) effects and correct usage of seat belts,
(2) summary of installation of Safety Devices and (3) results of comparative
tests of high speed breaking performance and crashworthiness against frontal
collision for 8 Japanese models with 1.5 liter engines was made public experimentally
on March 22, 1996 as "Automobile Safety Information".
This project aims to contribute to promoting the development and diffusion
of safer automobiles by publicizing comparative information on the safety by
model which is collected from a fair and neutral standpoint.(Picture)
