Tabi (Travel) Fair '96 (April 10-14, 1996)

"Tabi Fair '96," a travel fair providing general information on ' Japanese domestic tourism, was held from April 10 to 14 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba Prefecture. The Fair's primary purpose is to promote demand for Japanese domestic tourism when domestic travelers are decreasing caused by the increasd cost and the strong yen, resulting in a "hollowing out of domestic travel" for the Japanese travel industry.
Japan's travel-related organizations and the local people are thus singularly united in their effort to revive domestic travel in Japan.
At the site, the 155 exhibitions introduced new, stimulating travel products, and provided travel information, literature and specialty products of each region. Besides information booths, a Travel Mart was held and the travel buyers invited from worldwide and Japanese sellers exchanged information and had business talks. In addition, various local, traditional performances were staged during the fair and attracted many visitors. The fair drew 220,000 visitors, 20,000 more than that was expected, and was a great success.(Picture)
