Five related Ministries including the Ministry of Transport formulated
the "Overall Plan regarding the Promotion of Intelligent Transport Systems"
as a long-term vision of basic idea regarding the function, and research and
development which the Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) aim at in 20 years
from now. Twenty users of ITS services have been defined in the plan and objectives
for endeavour in the research and development among industry, the academic world
and the government have been established for each of nine fields of development.
The Ministry of Transport has been positively promoting various measures
such as the research and development regarding (1) promotion of development
of Advanced Safety Vehicle (ASV), (2) research and development of measures of
application of ITS to road transport business, and (3) research and development
of high-grade navigation, In the future it is intended to continue the promotion
of development of systematic and effective ITS according to the overall plan.(Fig)
