1. Development of Strategic Bases for Physical Distribution
Development of strategic bases for physical distribution is being promoted
through preferential treatment on taxation and financing, and loans from the
Japan Development Bank. In June 1996, the Physical Distribution Section of the
Council for Transport Policy drew up guidelines for the development of strategic
bases for physical distribution.
2. Toward efficient trunk-road distribution
The Ministry is trying to realize efficient long-distance trunk-road transportation
and expand its transport capacity through the promotion of intermodal transportation,
which comprises modal shifts toward shipping and railways and efficient combination
of different transportation means. The Ministry is also promoting palletization
through transit and joint operations in the transport of goods using trunk roads.
3. Toward efficient truck transportation in local physical distribution
For efficient trucking in local physical distribution, it is necessary to
utilize consolidated service by commercial trucks with high load efficiency.
The Ministry is promoting joint delivery and projects that aim at efficient
distribution.
4. Innovation of the business environment to activate physical distribution
undertaking
The Ministry is promoting deregulation and computerization with a view to
innovating the business environment to activate enterprise in the physical distribution
field.
