@ @Intermodal transportation is developing in international door-to-door transportation.
In addition, a growing number of Japanese freighters are setting up footholds
in foreign countries. To cope with such situations, the Ministry is promoting
overall international inter-modal transportation.
@ @The Ministry is also improving infrastructvres required for import. This
is in response to a growing demand for a smoother linkage between the international
and domestic distributiQn channels amid pressures to import more and a sharp
rise in imports of products and parts (Fig.
31). In addition, 22 areas have been so far designated as Foreign Access
Zones (FAZ) and the local import promotion programs for these zones have been
approved (Fig. 32). Particulaply
in the specified consolidated areas designated by the revised FAZ Law (revision
was made last year) within the FAZ, the Ministry will promote consolidation
of importrelated businesses so as to facilitate the distribution of imported
cargo.
