Tottori Port(area:CHUGOKU/TOTTORI)

Autumn Winter

The Tottori Port is located in the eastern part of Tottori Prefecture, 6km northwest of the downtown area, at the mouth of the class A Sendai River. In 1975, the Tottori Port was designated as a major port, and in 1990 the facilities were enhanced with the opening of one 10,000-ton and three 5,000-ton wharves in the Sendai District. Moreover, the port is equipped with a 25-ton crane as well as two cargo terminals. The Tottori Port has continued to thrive with excitement, with the opening of the fresh seafood market Karoichi in 2002, as well as the Tottori Karo Crab Aquarium in 2003, a facility where visitors can learn about crabs. In 2011, the retail center Wattaina opened to promote the sales of the Tottori Food Capital. In 2007, an earthquake resistant sea wall was installed to enable people to evacuate in the event of a large scale earthquake.
