Port of Sakaiminato (area:CHUGOKU/TOTTORI)

Spring Summer Autumn Winter

Port of Sakaiminato is a natural harbor sheltered by the Shimane Peninsula to the north. Geographically, it is situated almost exactly midway between Tsuruga Port and Shimonoseki Port. Located just 221 nautical miles from Busan, South Korea, there are regular passenger and cargo ferries operating between Donghae and Sakai Port. This port is also one of Japan's leading fishing ports, boasting the highest crab catch in the country. Numerous locations considered central to Japanese mythology can be found here, often referred to as the 'land of the gods.' Izumo Grand Shrine, dedicated to the deity Okuninushi, is believed to host all the gods of Japan in October of the lunar calendar, attracting worshippers from across the nation. Many myths are passed down to the local residents through Kagura, a form of music and dance dedicated to the gods, forming the core of the region's spiritual culture. The city of Matsue, centered around Matsue Castle, retains former samurai residences and a rich tea culture. It is also close to Daisen National Park, known for its beech forests—one of the finest in western Japan—offering excellent hiking opportunities. The area is rich in various tourism resources, including hot springs and locations celebrated in manga.
