Hososhima Port（area:KYUSHU／MIYAZAKI)
The Hososhima Port is located in Hyuga City, the center of the coastal region of eastern Kyushu. It has served as an important center for maritime transportation since olden times. The port was designated as a Special Major Port in 1951. Since it opened in 1964, the Hososhima Port has continued to grow as a distribution infrastructure that has sustained regional employment and the local economy in the northern areas of Miyazaki Prefecture. Behind the port are many manufacturing plants, which enable the port to fulfill a wide range of roles. For instance, as an international industrial port which handles mainly industrial materials and products, the Hososhima Port sustains the majority of the region’s overseas exports. It also serves as the gateway to tourist destinations such as Takachiho Gorge. In addition, the port was selected as a focus port by the Japanese government in 2010 and construction projects are being carried out at a rapid rate. This has drawn a great deal of expectation and attention from various fields.
