Minato Oasis Sea Class Gourmet National Convention (Onahama Port, Iwaki City, Fukushima)

 To organize the 2nd Minato Oasis Sea Class Gourmet National Convention at the Onahama Port, Iwaki City, during which participants can enjoy eating regional foods, including the specialties of each Minato Oasis in the Tohoku area.

Period

 Autumn of 2012

Public opening of the training ship “Seiun Maru” at the National Institute for Sea Training (NIST)

To publicly open the training ship “Seiun Maru” in the Tohoku area (Aomori Port) as part of promotion activities for the maritime industry, and to organize observation tours in the ship and related facilities, as well as experience tours of machine operation and shipmen’s assignments. The project may also contribute to future recruitment in the industry.

Period

 At the Aomori Port, from the end of August to the first of September, 2012

Joint Forum on Japanese and Korean Railways, Joint Forum on Japanese and English Railways, and Working-level Consultation on Japanese and Indian Railways (to be held in the Tohoku area)

 With regard to the future cooperation forums with Korea, the UK, and India on railway administration, this project is considering the possibility of organizing them in the Tohoku area.

Period

 Summer to autumn 2012

Operation of “Tourism Tohoku: Recovery Support Train” (tentative)

 To operate “Tourism Tohoku: Recovery Support Train” (tentative) with local railways in the Tohoku area so that the tourism industry in Tohoku can attract more customers. It can also increase the momentum of the recovery of the railway industry. (Organizers: Railway companies of Tohoku Railroad Association)

Period

 Starts operation in April 2012 with the Yamagata Railway (plan) and will continue  with other railways in the Tohoku area

Railways in Tohoku: Recovery promotion event

 To organize a “Recovery promotion area” at the annually held “Railway Festival in Tohoku,” where photo panels of railway recovery will be displayed, Sanriku Railway items will be sold, and supporting messages will be collected. (Organizer: Executive committee of “Railway Day” in the Tohoku area, Venue: Sendai City)

 October 2012 (current plan)

Relay photo exhibition: Railways in Tohoku

 To organize a relay photo exhibition at each station of local railways in Tohoku, in which photos of railways before and after the natural disaster, as well as photos of recovery efforts, are displayed. (Organizers: Tohoku Railroad Association, railway companies, and associated organizations)

Mutual customer referral program (Restoration support project for Tohoku local railways)

 To organize a “mutual customer referral program” planned by Tohoku local railways that have been suffering from declining demands because of voluntary restraint of customers and the spread of harmful rumors. The program encourages mutual customer referrals between local railways, for example, by inviting residents living along one railway line to visit and travel by way of another line. (Organizers: Railway companies of Tohoku Railroad Association)

Sanriku Railway restoration symposium (tentative)

 The Sanriku Railway will begin full service in spring 2014. Supporting the railway, a symposium to stimulate the railway industry and local community, contribute to local development, and attract more travelers is currently planned, so that the restoration of Sanriku Railway and local community can  be promoted. (Organizers: Tohoku District Transport Bureau, Japan Railway Construction, Transport, and Technology Agency (JRTT), Venue: near the Sanriku Railway line)
