Tokoname ware jar with three-line design
This container was produced in the twelfth century in Tokoname, a pottery center in Aichi Prefecture. It is incised with three transverse lines in a design known as sankinko (“jar with three lines”). Many such jars were created at Tokoname during the Heian period (794–1185).
