仁王門 と仁王像
金峯山寺の国宝、仁王門は、見るものを圧倒する20メートル以上の高さをもつ二階建ての建築物で、北向きに建っています。乱世の南北朝時代 (1336–1392)に建てられた仁王門は、日本にごくわずかしか現存していない二階建ての門のひとつです。南向きの二天門は焼失したため、金峯山寺に残っているのは仁王門だけです。
門の両側に安置されている約高さ5メートルの守護神の像、金剛力士立像は14世紀頃に制作された重要文化財です。
仁王門は現在、1950年代以来の修復と保全が行われており、2030年頃までは参拝できない可能性があります。
Niomon Gate and Niozo Statues
Kinpusenji Temple’s north-facing Niomon Gate is an imposing two-story structure over 20 meters in height. This National Treasure dates back to the turbulent Nanbokucho period (1336–1392) and is one of only a few original two-story gates still standing in Japan. It is the only remaining main gate at Kinpusenji, as the south-facing Nitenmon Gate burned down.
The 5-meter-tall Kongo Rikishi guardian statues on either side of the gate date back to the fourteenth century, and have been designated Important Cultural Properties.
The gate is currently undergoing preservation work for the first time since the 1950s, and may be covered until 2030.
