Iga Ninja: Ninja Show
In this show, modern-day ninja demonstrate the fighting techniques, disguises, and tools that ninja used during their espionage. For example, shuriken—also known as ninja stars—are light weapons that could be hurled at enemies to blind, distract, or wound. Shuriken were sometimes dipped in aconite, a deadly poison.
Though farmers were traditionally forbidden to carry weapons, ninja learned to work around those restrictions. The kama, or hand scythe, was used for harvesting crops, but ninja developed techniques to use it as a weapon. The shikomi-zue, or sword-cane, looked like an ordinary stick but contained a hidden blade.
While the shinobi-gatana, or ninja sword, is also demonstrated as part of the show, it is unlikely that ninja ever used such weapons.
