監的哨跡
帝国陸軍は、1929年にこの場所を監的哨（を目視するための施設）として建設しましたが、施設は第二次世界大戦後に廃止されました。その後何年もの間、村人はこの屋根付きのスペースを山から集めたたきつけを保管するのに使っていました。長く放置されていた頑丈なコンクリートの建物は、現在では主に展望台として使用されています。晴れた日には、島の灯台がある伊良湖岬と、弁天岬の険しい地形の両方が見えます。

Site of Artillery-Spotting Facility
The imperial army built an artillery-spotting facility site in 1929, though it was decommissioned after World War II. For many years afterward, villagers used the covered space to store the kindling they collected from the mountains. Long since abandoned, the sturdy concrete structure is now mainly used as an observation deck. On clear days you can see both Cape Irago, home of the island’s lighthouse, and the rugged landscape of Cape Benten.
