Mitarashi Jinja Shrine

A hundred days after the birth of a child, it is local custom for the mother to gather 12 white stones from a beach and bring them to Mitarashi Jinja Shrine along with her newborn. The stones are then laid on the ground inside the shrine. For this reason, it is customary to remove one’s shoes before stepping inside. Another local custom is for couples to offer a pair of male and female abalone to the shrine in the hope their child will be blessed with healthy and beautiful eyes. A unique tree in the shape of a dragon can be seen along the path leading up to the shrine.
